Wade is a legend!! He has been the best host we have ever had! He went above and beyond with his hospitality, so we could have the best kiting experience. Downwinder Inn is super recommended, comfortable beds, hot water, fully equipped kitchen and private Kitchenette. Best bang for your buck!
Downwinder Inn is a Gem in El Sargento! Amazing views, very clean accommodation, and a perfect setup for kiteboarding on the Sea of Cortez. The staff is friendly and our group is already planning another visit. I highly recommend the Downwinder Inn for a trip in the La Ventana area! Five Stars!

They are very accommodating and the rooms are nice. Beds are Mexican queen which slightly shorter than American queen size I'm 6'2" and it's a bit short for me but since it was just me I fit just fine diagonally. Shared kitchen is well stocked and clean as are the rooms. It's pretty far from all the action - bars restaurants etc. If you kite or windsurf and are good enough to do downwinder, this is a good deal as this is where downwinder start and they will provide transportation for you to get back. If you are a beginner you might be better off at the bottom of the bay where all the action is and you can walk everywhere. Here you need a car. They have a truck you can reserve. It has manual transmission and you can't take it out of the village so if you are planning to explore bring yours. The other reason you might like this place is if you prefer early turn ins : this place is basically done after sun down. And there are no bars around to make noise.
Wade es increible, una persona amable, y muy servicial. El lugar es muy lindo y muy cómodo, sencillo pero muy agradable. Hay dos playas para kitear que son una belleza, recomiendo completamente este lugar! Wade is THE MAN!!
We stayed at DownWinder Inn, El Sargento / La Ventana for three days. *Hosts: Char and Wayde, the owners are very nice. They're helpful with everything. *Rooms: The rooms are colorful. There's a good shower and a small fridge in the room. Everything is very clean. Also a big roof terrace from where you can see the beautiful bright stars. * Kitchen The communal kitchen has a big fridge, a nice big oven, gasstove and microwave. There are enough nice tables and comfy leather chairs and a hammock. * Activities Very near you can go (kite) surfing or kayaking. In January you do need a shorty or 2/3 long wetsuit. Summershoes can be handy because of the stones. In a 20 minutes walk you will be at the hot springs. Wait for low tide, dig a hole and just lie down in the warm water! Ask Char or Wayde if you can barrow shovels and snorkeling gear or take your own! At the property you can wash your gear with the garden hoses. * El Sargento /La Ventana The place has very little asphalt and a lot of sand. Best is to go by car or rent a buggy, quad or (motor) bike . There are a few supermarkets. Oscarito's (Pacifico) has fresh vegetables and in the Oxxo you can find the only ATM in town, which is empty at the end of every week. You can pay with creditcard at the supermarket, but not in the restaurant. Be sure to bring cash. So: we had a very nice stay and will surely recommend it!
